Lets try this again

Jul 25, 2007 1:24 PM by Discussion: WC News

On Thursday July 26th, 2007 from approximately 7:30am to 9:30am (Easter Time Zone) we will be performing server maintenance.  During this time we will be closing the WinCustomize Skin Gallery. This will aftect most of the site, including the Personal Pages. However, the Forums will still be open for your reading pleasure.

We apologize for this inconvenience and hope for all you diehards that it does not cause any mental break downs.  Consider this a moment to spend some time with your loved ones.

As you have all probably noticed there has been some significant performance issue with WinCustomize of the last couple of weeks where you will experience intermittent long page load times.  We will be attempting to correct this problem tomorrow.

So, we will be performing maintenence on our servers in the morning from approximately 7:30am to 8:30am Eastern Time.  During that time WinCustomize may experience brief periods of downtime.  And hopely when we are complete the site will be back up and running at top speed.

Includes Progress Meter

Feb 15, 2007 10:06 PM by Discussion: Developer Journals

We have been working on developing a new upload page for WinCustomize. The new page incorporates a progress meter to indicate how much is remaining on the upload.  This should be helpful for those uploading large files or on a slow connection as you will know just how far along you are in the upload process.

Since it is a major code rewrite we need to battle test it before we replace the current upload.  So for all you skin authors, if you are going to be uploading some new skins we sure would appreciate if you could try out this new page and let us know how it works.

The temporary URL is http://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx

When reporting problems please let us know what browser you are using and what version.  This is extremely important information that we will need to reproduce the problems as we have browser specific code in this page to make it work properly.

Thanks in advance for the help!

As everyone is already seeing, we are experiencing some technical difficulties at the moment.  It appears that one of our servers is having hard drive issues which is causing everything to go hay wire.

We are in the process of setting up another server to fix this problem.  In the mean time I'm going to disable most of the pages relating to the Gallery.  Hopefully I should have things up an running in about 2 hours.  Our apologies for the inconvenience.

While we have worked very hard to make the new site error free there are always a issue here and there that were simply missed.  So this is the place that we would like you to submit site issues to.

Please take the time to read through items that have already been submitted so that you are not duplicating issues.   This will make it much easier for us in determining new or old bugs.

Also, when reporting a problem its very important that you include the URL to the page where the problem occured.  Also be as descriptive as possible.  And if it is a display issue please be sure to include what browser you are running and its version.

Testing from local machine.  This time the link in the email should not point to localhost.

Forums and test.wincustomize.com

Jan 3, 2007 2:17 PM by Discussion: Developer Journals

Just letting everyone know that we fixed a bug in our logon code for the forums and test.wincustomize.com, which was not saving the logon cookie the same as the main www.wincustomize.com site.

So if you are experiencing problems logging in between the main site and the forums please logoff (if possible) or delete your cookies and then relogon.  Hopefully that should take care of the problem.

As you all know we have been working hard at updating the design and code for WinCustomize.  A couple weeks ago we made our test site available to subscribers (http://forums.wincustomize.com/?forumid=153&aid=135594) to get a first look at how the site is coming along.  Well today we are opening up the test site to everyone.

We are still a couple of weeks away from making the site live but we want to start getting more traffic to the site to make sure we find as many bugs as possible and make sure that we have not over looked anything.

So for all those who want to check out the beta of WinCustomize.com please visit http://test.wincustomize.com/ . We hope that you enjoy the new site and please feel free to post any problems you run into here so that we can make sure we have the site running as smooth as possible.

Thanks and enjoy.

WinCustomize, in cooperation with Pageflakes, is happy to announce the addition of the WinCustomize SkinCast flake to the Pageflakes gallery. The WinCustomize SkinCast flake allows you to view the newest WindowBlinds visual styles posted to the WinCustomize Gallery. Visit Pageflakes now and add the WinCustomize SkinCast Flake to your page today!

Pageflakes is a personalized start page with email checking, movie finder, RSS feeds and various other features. In other words, think of it as a webpage where users can easily add gadgets (or flakes as they call them) to a page making news and information readily available (like the latest and greatest skins from WinCustomize).

Pageflakes is completely customizable allowing you to move your flakes any where on the page to give you that page that is perfect for your viewing preferences. But one of the best features of Pageflakes is that it offers tabbed paging. Being able to add new pages is very similar to using ObjectDock Plus, but instead of organizing your applications you are organizing your information on tabbed pages. And to prevent cluttering Pageflakes allow you to share your page with friends or publish it so it is publicly available to everyone. This is a great feature if you want to make a very specific page to share with a group of friends, team or colleagues.

Also, be sure to checkout Pageflakes "Share and Win" Competition where you could win $1,000
